Summary
This article advocates that organizations improve their ability to handle deaths that impact the workplace. The authors note that the suicide of an employee or an employee’s family member can create challenging situations for managers and front line personnel, and recommend that education and training be offered within organizations to prepare employees to respond effectively and with sensitivity. The authors recommend that organizations have risk assessment policies and crisis management systems that will enable managers to address a suicide or sudden death in the workplace.
