Synopsis
The COVID-19 pandemic has become a defining moment in our world since March 2020. Helping professionals were thrust into a whole new experience of service delivery including navigating how to support clients while encountering their own difficult situations. When professionals are under stress, working with clients can become challenging, creating ethical dilemmas. This session incorporates strategies that allow helping professionals to pause, reflect, and adjust how to approach their work in complex ethical cases with a stronger commitment to self-care. Participants will leave with a framework for connecting ethics to self-care by engaging in several mindful self-compassion practices.
Objectives
- Identify the significant impact the pandemic has had on helpers across a range of settings.
- Describe the ethical responsibilities of practicing self-care and promoting resiliency as a helping professional.
- Explore ways of integrating mindful self-compassion practices into one’s personal and professional life.
