Bo’s Place and the Institute for Spirituality and Health present:
Where Are They Now? Exploring Perspectives on Afterlife
synopsis:
This 3-hour program explores different conceptions of where people go or continue to exist after death and how these beliefs shape the grieving process. What happens when we die? is a question at the core of human experience, to which we have generated many answers. Religious and spiritual traditions offer various ideas of life after death, from heaven and hell to reincarnation. The question involves which aspects of a person continue to exist, as well as where and how they exist.
How one conceives of death, and what lies beyond, has a profound impact on the way he or she grieves the death of a loved one. Expecting to meet them again in the afterlife, hoping that they are in a better place, and striving to preserve their spirit or memory are a few of the many ways the bereaved maintain a connection to their deceased loved ones, based on beliefs about where they have gone. These ways of relating are intertwined with the psychological state following a death, and an exploration of these beliefs will enhance our understanding of grief and bereavement.
